“OLD YELLER”, (L), a rusted-out 70s, folding relic, was rescued from a dump, and resurrected by the crew at Dave’s Custom Bikes in Santa Cruz. “PANAMA RED” (R), is a new Trike I purchased before deciding to utilize only used units. Nice ride, though, and, I will sell you a new unit if you insist, but, we’d rather recycle. And, yes, MidtownTrikes likes to give each unit a “name” whenever possible. Childish? Perhaps, but, that’s what we do. It’s all good. MidTown Trikes finds and electrifies, pre-owned, old, or used adult three wheeled bikes, and, encourages folks to park their cars more often, and, use a more environmentally friendly mode of transport to take care of neighborhood tasks that require hauling cargo of some sort. Electric Trikes are excellent for local shopping and errands, and, of course, are easy to park and maneuver in city centers. They also carry cargo up to 250 Lbs. (rider included) Range–this depends on many factors, and, is the least desirable aspect of this vehicle. Wind, terrain, temperature, all can have an effect on the distance a Trike will travel, so giving accurate milage on this is difficult. 10-15 miles, or more, is realistic, depending on the above factors, and, how much pedal power you wish to provide make this figure variable, but, I wouldn’t plan on riding it to San Francisco anytime soon. These units are designed for local use only. Also, the type of battery utilized makes a difference in performance, and, of course, cost. Battery technology is evolving rapidly, and, dramatic increases in power and distance are on the horizon. However, these are perfect for local uses of many kinds with current technology. And, they are FUN! Each used unit is unique, and, made road worthy. Cosmetic upgrades are possible, but, can increase cost tremendously, and, aren’t what we’re about, really. My next project is the 60s Schwinn (below) found in Santa Rosa. It will soon be scooting around town, burning no fuel, and, available for purchase.

Buzz Daly Owner, MidTown Trikes IMPORTANT NOTE: Electrifying a Trike changes its handling ability completely from pedal power. It takes some skill to learn to ride these safely, but, once accomplished, most folks can’t get enough Trikin’. These things can really scoot, and safety is very important. They should never be used for Bar-Hopping, or showing off. This can have disastrous results. Do not buy one of these for your 90 year old Gramma, especially if she likes to Bar-Hop and show off, is all I’m suggesting. Not advisable for young children, either. Check out this video of one of my Trikes, “PANAMA RED”, in action. panama-red Of course, owning a MidTown Trike is not for everyone, but, you can still participate by purchasing a beautiful T-Shirt, or Cap, for yourself or a loved one.
